Anytime a pitcher goes 8+ innings 4 games in a row, he is doing something right. Mark Buehrle has done just that. Not only has he went 8 innings 4 straight times, but he has also given up a TOTAL of just 5 Earned runs in that span. As a result, the White Sox are 3-1 over his last 4 games, while winning 3 straight home games that Buehrle has started. Sean Marshall will be getting the start for the Cubs. Marshall lasted just 4 innings in his first start of 2008 giving up 7 hits and 4 earned runs on Tuesday vs the Orioles. Marshall performed very well out of the Bullpen earlier in the season, and was called up as a starter to take the place of ace Carlos Zambrano. Marshall showed that he may have the mechanics to be a big League pitcher by striking out 7 hitters in his loss on Tuesday, but must lower his 1.47 whip and show better command of the strike zone. Neither team is doing well vs lefties, with the Cubs hitting .280 but scoring only 1.50 runs a game vs lefties over their last 5 games, while the White Sox are hitting .235 and scoring 2.08 runs a game vs lefties over their last 5. One note for this game is that Umpire Rob Drake has been behind the plate twice in his career when Buehrle was pitching. What was the outcome? Buehrle gave up a total of 1 run in those games, which were both very convincing White Sox wins!
